1. Redox Reactions

Methylene blue is a benchmark redox indicator in analytical chemistry. Thanks to its properties, it changes from blue to colorless when the oxidation state of the medium changes, making it easier to visualize the endpoint in redox titrations. This is useful in both academic and industrial laboratories to clearly demonstrate electron transfer.

2. Staining in Microscopic Preparations

In histology and microbiology, methylthioninium chloride is used to stain tissue and cell sections, selectively binding to acidic components such as DNA and RNA. It thus enhances nuclei, membranes, and other organelles, facilitating their observation under a microscope. Primarily to protect the integrity of samples, reagent-grade methylene blue provides sharp contrast without damaging tissue.

3. Home Textile Dyeing

As an organic dye, this substance should be used in DIY projects to dye natural fibers (cotton, wool, silk).
